Chapter 5 - A Death Of A Rider, Part 1

As I stood there, staring down the Kamen Rider that saved me, all feelings of uneasiness faded away, as if I knew this Rider somehow. Then I saw it: a wooden pendant that looked exactly like mine. I reached for my chest to see and pulled my pendant out. As I gazed at it, memories began to flood back to me from when I was little.

“Leo!” called a little girl, “Where are you?”

“I'm over here on the swings, silly!” replied the boy.

This was me when I was about five years old. And the little girl is my twin sister Cleo, also five. We were so little that we didn't have a care in the world for what was going to happen to us. But that was the last peaceful moment we had before things began to grow chaotic:

“There are some weird people here who want to talk to mom,” said Cleo, pointing to the house. As we ran up to the house, I saw a man standing by a car holding something shiny and square in his hand. This intrigued me because as my sister walked by the little box, it started to glow. I turned to see if my sister had noticed, but thankfully she was too busy running towards the house to notice. But when I turned back to the man, I saw him put it back in his pocket.

“Mom!” yelled Cleo happily as she walked inside. Our mom was a consultant for a company, and she had to take a lot of business trips. From time to time, we would have to move from one city to another. It was hard since our dad left us when we were little. As I walked inside, my heart almost stopped: I saw more men in suits similar to the man that I saw outside.

“Mom, what’s going on?” I asked, but all I saw were tears running down my mom’s face. After seeing my mom crying, I started getting scared and worried because after my sister and I walked in, the men in the suits immediately blocked the front and back doors so we couldn't get out. I didn't like the scene and began to grow uneasy. All I knew is that they didn't want me or my mom because they were asking about my sister. There was one man in particular who said that he was a lawyer and wanted to talk to us about my sister.

“How many years have you been keeping her from me?” asked the man as he set a tape recorder down on the table.

“Five years,” replied my mom. Then she looked over to me and said, “Honey, can you take your sister to her room and go to your room please? This is something that I have to deal with.”

As she asked this, she handed me part of her pendant. It was wooden, made to symbolize the bond between me, my sister, and our mom. She gave me the wolf part of the pendant and then gave my sister the other part: the horse. After staring at it for a little, I took my sister to her room and then went to my room. I tried to listen to the conversation between my mom and those men, but not knowing how tired I really was, I fell asleep.

An hour or so later, I woke up to screaming and ran down the stairs to find some men holding my sister and my mom on the floor, motionless and unconscious. Seeing all this, I was horrified and anger began to build within me. It slowly grew to an uncontrollable rage, which set me off. I started attacking the men and was able to knock down the one standing next to me. I tried to free my sister by attacking the men holding her but the other men were too fast for me. One of them delivered a blow to my head, which dazed me. As I fell to the ground, all I could hear was my sister’s screams ringing in my ears.

“LEO!” She screamed.

Then everything went silent. All I remember after that was waking up in a hospital, not knowing what happened after I blacked out. When the nurses saw me awaken, they immediately rushed to me and asked if I was okay. When I asked them what had happened, they told me everything:

Apparently, there had been a fire at our house, and the neighbors were only able to pull me out of the burning house. My mother was nowhere to be found. The ambulance managed to get me to the hospital in time to save my life, but while they were trying to save me, they had noticed something falling out of my hand. The moment they said this, I began to panic. I frantically looked around for my pendant while the nurses tried to restrain me from getting up until finally a nurse showed me the pendant and asked, “Is this what you were looking for?”

I immediately took the pendant from her and began to clutch it tightly against my chest. The nurses began to look at me sympathetically as they began to look at my information. As the doctors came in to check up on me, I fell asleep, knowing that the one precious thing that is symbolic of my family is still with me.

That night was the worst night of my life, but after a couple days, I managed to recover most of my strength. After that ordeal, I lived the next few years of my life as a normal kid. Well, normal enough until that night when I met Kamen Rider Advent. After that fateful meeting, my life has started to come together: getting my Advent Deck from Kamen Rider Advent, fighting Xaviax’s monsters, and hopefully, solving the mystery of my life. But before I could do that, I had to figure out the situation at hand.

“Is it really you, Cleo?” I asked, snapping back to reality.

“Yes,” replied the Kamen Rider.

“It's been a long time hasn't it, Leo?” she said as she stood within arms distance of me. My sister then stepped back and flashed her armor as she reverted to her normal form. As I did the same, I saw the face of my sister Cleo brighten up. After I returned to normal, I instantly felt her embrace me in a strong hug that took me by surprise.

Her embrace was surprisingly strong, and after about 10 seconds, almost all the air in my lungs was squeezed out of me. The only sound I could make was a very muffled “Ow!” as I tried to get her to stop hugging me. When my sister heard this she let go of me and started to apologize: “I'm sorry! I guess I don't know my own strength anymore after all the training and stuff.”

This surprised me and all I could do was stare at her.

“Yeah, that's why I tracked you down. I wanted to tell you what’s going on with the Kamen Riders and give you some very good news.” She paused, waiting for my reaction. I silently nodded and she continued: “I found out where Mom is, Leo. I also found out how we can save Mom.” she said slowly.

“Mom…” That was all that I could manage to squeak out. Not knowing what happened to my mother was always the thing that has bothered me over the years. I had blamed myself because I thought that my sister and mom were killed because of me. But now that I see my sister here in front of me, I now know for sure that my mother is still alive and that we are going to save her. I looked up at my sister and asked, “How are we going to be able to save her?”

She just looked at me and sighed heavily before she began, “Leo, in order for us to save Mom, we have to defeat the Kamen Riders you just saw."

When she said this, my face turned white at the thought of venting another rider. I remember Kamen Rider Advent’s words really clearly: “The other Riders need your help. Please help them!” I do not want to fight any other Kamen Riders, but since my sister said that the only way to save Mom is to vent the other Kamen Riders, then so be it. But is this really the only way to save her? Is there a way to save her and not have to fight the other Kamen Riders who are working to destroy Xaviax? That was something that I had to find out for myself.

Chapter 5 - A Death Of A Rider, Part 2

As night fell on the harbor, I stood on the edge of the dock, thinking of the task that stood before me. Taking the life of another person, even if they were going against the entire planet, wasn’t easy for me to do. And it wasn’t something that anybody should look forward to, should I have to do it. Thoughts of betrayal ran threw my mind as I recalled the fateful meeting with Kamen Rider Advent, the knight who gave me the powers. My thoughts turned to who he had to vent: Sting, Frost, Wing Knight, and anybody else who stood in my way. It chilled me to his very core just thinking about it. As I turned and walked away, I noticed my sister watching me. She seemed deep in thought, and I thought it was best for me to leave her alone, but unbeknownst to me, a mysterious voice began to speak to my sister, startling her without my notice.

“You know what must happen, right?” the mysterious voice asked.

“Yes, I know what I must do,” she replied with distain in her voice.

As Cleo said this, she morphed into her Rider Form. She quietly left for Ventara in search of the same Kamen Riders that had attacked me earlier. After a few hours of searching, she found Kamen Rider Frost training with Sting and Wing Knight.

“This is perfect!” she thought to herself as she landed quietly unbeknownst to her adversaries, though she did not notice that Wing Knight had been watching her ever since she emerged from the mirror. As she sneaked in closer, she realized that Sting had breathing problems, so she thought to herself: Perfect! I’ll make my first move on him. She drew her card and then everyone heard the distinct voice. KAMEN RIDER NOVA: STRIKE VENT. She ran up behind Sting and struck him to the ground.

Wing Knight immediately stepped in and deflected her second attempt at striking Sting and asked, “What do you think you’re doing? Who are you”

“My name is not important. All you need to know is that I'm here for payback to what you did to my brother!” she screamed, feigning rage and distress. It was all part of her plan.

“What are you talking about?!?” yelled Sting as he pulled himself up off of the ground, breathing heavily. By this time, Frost had already drawn his weapons and was ready to strike. Excellent, thought Nova, now to move on to phase 2.

“You guys hurt him when he was trying to help you. He's not a fighter!” Her act was beginning to fool them, but not Wing Knight. He saw that she was baiting a trap, but he didn't want to intervene because he wished to see how far Sting and Frost would be willing to go before he stepped in and took action. She let out a grunt of fake frustration and went on the attack. Immediately Frost was on her: KAMEN RIDER FROST: FREEZE VENT. As she charged at Frost, she felt an unfamiliar chill running through her body. She noticed that her movements were beginning to slow down and then before she could reach Frost, her body went stiff and numb. She desperately tried to free herself as Frost walked up to her.

“Cool off,” Frost said coldly. As he turned away, Nova managed to pull out a card she had hidden in her hand and used it in desperation. KAMEN RIDER NOVA: MIRROR VENT. Out of the sky came a mirror that shined the sun’s rays and melted the ice on Nova. Empowered by the light, she ran up and struck Frost to the ground.

Unaware of my sister’s battle with the three Riders, I continued to walk around the harbor. I continued to think about the three Riders that had attacked me and what I should do if they attack again. As I walked around, I heard a familiar voice in my head: They are your friends. Advent’s words have always given me strength, but this time, it only made matters worse. I didn’t know who to believe. I wanted to save my mother but if it means venting potential friends? I couldn’t forgive myself if I had to do something like that, especially when everything was still so new to me.

As I mulled over these things, I did not realize that a Rider was watching my every move. He quietly moved out of the mirror and ambushed me from behind. I landed hard on my back but I quickly got back up and confronted my attacker. Noticing that he was a Rider, I immediately pulled out my deck and transformed. As we circled around, I managed to ask him, “Who are you? And what do you want with me?”

“Me?” the new Rider asked, “Oh, I am your worst nightmare. The only thing you need to know is that I, Spear, will take you down.”

The malice in his voice Enraged me to the core. I pulled out a card and readied myself to attack or defend, should he strike: KAMEN RIDER LUNAR: STRIKE VENT.

“You picked a really bad day to mess with me, Spear!” I said, threatingly raising my weapon at him.

“Ahhh, is da little boy afwaid of a wittle battle? Oh, don't worry. After I finish you off, I'm going after your pretty little sister,” laughed Spear. After Spear had finished his words he charged at me, weapon drawn.

“Leave my sister out of this!” I yelled, enraged. With newfound strength, I quickly parried Spear’s attack and landed a powerful blow to his chest, knocking him to the ground with a loud thump. Before Spear could get his breath back, I was already on him, holding my weapon at his throat.

“WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT MY SISTER?!” I asked while jabbing him in the throat slowly. Spear saw his brother in the mirror, nodding, and spilled everything like a can of beans: “She's off right now, fighting Frost and Sting so that you don’t have to fight them. She sent me to keep you occupied until she could finish the job.”

No! It can’t be! I thought in horror. And without a second thought, I got up and charged into the mirror, hoping that I wasn’t too late. Spear watched me leave, laughing softly. Another Rider, one with a tiger deck, emerged from the mirror and took his place by Spear’s side. The new rider asked, “He's a dead man walkin’, ain't he?”

All Spear did was nod, but then told the new Rider, “Come on, bro, we gotta go. The next part of the plan is about to start. Watch out, Riders! Axe and Spear are ready to go!”

With Sting on the ground, wheezing from his asthma and unable to fight, and frost reeling in pain, Nova slowly stepped within a few inches of Frost and slowly pulled out her Final Vent card and inserted it into her card reader. KAMEN RIDER NOVA: FINAL VENT. Out of the sun, a horse emerged, and Nova mounted him and charged at Frost with her Javelin of Light drawn. Before Sting could do anything and Wing Knight could step in, she made contact with Frost squarely on his Advent deck, shattering it into tiny pieces. All the words that came out of her mouth were, “You’re finished!’

As she rode away slowly, the ear-splitting screams of Frost could be heard for miles. This alerted me to where the battle was taking place, and I ran with all my strength. When I got there, I saw a gruesome sight, watching in horror as the once proud warrior now laid on the ground, slowly disappearing into the Advent Void. Wriggling in pain, all anybody heard was him screaming and crying out until it abruptly ceased when Kamen Rider Frost’s body was gone.

“NO!!” Wing Knight yelled in horror. Enraged at Frost’s venting, Wing Knight charged in and all of the riders heard Wing Knight use his final vent. KAMEN RIDER WING KNIGHT: FINAL VENT. I watched in horror as Wing Knight drove straight through my own sister, knocking her to the ground.

“Why would a proud knight like you attack me from behind?” she sputtered out, coughing up blood in the process.

“Because,” he replied, “you struck down an innocent man.” He paused for a few seconds, and then asked the guilt-stricken Nova, “And for what false reasons did you have to strike him down?”

“Because it was the only way that I could think of in order to save OUR mom!” Nova answered. That is when it hit Wing Knight, the true reason she attacked him. “Well, by attacking me you have sealed your own fate. Turning his back and walking away slowly all Wing Knight said was: You’re finished.”

Although I could not hear what they were saying, I looked on the ground before her and saw in horror as her own deck lay in pieces. The only thing I could do to help my sister was to run up to her and catch her before she fell to the ground. When I finally reached her, all she was able to muster as final words rang in the air.

“I'm sorry...I couldn't beat them.” She tore he necklace off and handed it to me her brother. Not only biologically, but also to her own brother in arms. By now, I had changed back and was staring in tears as I watched her fade away into nothingness. I just sat there, helpless to do anything as she left me. All that came to my mind were the final words I told her when she rescued me: Sis, I don't think I will be able to take another man's life, even for the sake of our mother.. Now, I began to think that if I had vented them sooner, then I would not have had to watch his sister die in my arms.

“Why?” I asked myself quietly. I then stood up and confronted the two remaining Riders. “Why did you have to vent my sister?!?” As I yelled those angry words, I began felt an abnormal energy build up in me.

Wing Knight replied coldly, “She was under the influence of General Xaviax. There was no other reason that she would attack us. You should understand that.”

“What?” I was stunned at Wing Knight’s words. My sis…working for General Xaviax? It can’t be! The rage and abnormal power began to grow. In a last attempt to control my rage and fury, I yelled out, “No! She only wanted me to help her bring Mom back. She couldn’t have been working with General Xaviax to bring that goal into reality. Cleo would never do such a thing!”

“Oh, she did all right.” Wing Knight sternly replied. “How else would she have come here without your notice?” That phrase struck the last restraint I had on my fury. I couldn’t contain it any longer. The ground began to tremble as I lost control over myself. With a scream that did not sound anything like me, I released that energy, enveloping myself in an electric aura filled with rage. The force of the release shook the earth, the sky, and the two Riders, sending them to the ground.

“KAMEN RIDER LUNAR!!!!” I thrust up my deck and with an electrical surge, began to transform, but it was different than before. My Advent beast emerged from the mirror and merged with me, giving me new weapons, new armor, and new cards. When the transformation was complete, I looked at myself. My armor bore the head, legs, and arms of a wolf, but the chest of a man with sharp fangs and powerful claws. Wing Knight watched in awe as my original weapons became a part of me. Wing Knight then suddenly heard Kamen Rider Advent’s voice, talking about this mode of transformation before:

“It's called burst mode. It is when a rider has used up all of his energy and merges with his Advent beast temporarily. But if you combine with your Advent beast out of extreme feeling of anger or sadness, or Ventara forbid, both, it would be devastating.” Advent calmly stated.

“And why is that?” asked a curious Sting.

As if shocked by the question, Advent snapped back and said, “In that case, the beast would be in control, capable of using all of its powers without cards and the help of its Rider. If this happens to anyone around you, don't stay there, for it will be angry and merciless.

“Why would it be merciless?” questioned Frost.

“Because the person who it has contracted with, their feelings will become its own and it won't be able to control the human emotions, thus they go berserk.”

As the words rang in his ears, I let out an inhumane roar and, unable to control myself, I charged at blinding speed towards the two Riders. Wing Knight swiftly grabbed Sting and tossed him into a mirror. As he ran towards another mirror in an attempt to draw the beast away from Sting, I grabbed him by the ankle and smashed him into the concrete, creating a small crater. As he tried to get up, my rage took over, and I continued to relentlessly pound the life out of him. A limp Wing Knight knew deep down that he was going to be vented here today. With his fate accepted, he lowered his defense and waited for the final blow to be dealt.

With another roar, I raised both of my clawed fists and began my final blow, throwing them down to destroy Wing Knight. Suddenly, out of the sky came an arrow that hit me square on the side of the head, bouncing off. I turned and saw a new Kamen Rider, a white Rider floating down as gracefully as a swan.

“Siren?” Wing Knight asked himself as he tried to see the new Rider. In an uncontrollable rage, I let go of Wing Knight and charged at Siren without a second thought. She continued her onslaught of raining arrows as she continued her descent until one hit me right between the eyes. The force of the hit was enough to knock me off balance, tipping me into a nasty fall and creating a crater in the process. That was when I suddenly lost my energy, and my world just went dim as I blacked out on my backside. The last thing I saw was Siren finally landing before my vision went dark. As Siren helped Wing knight to his feet, they saw my armor fade away, leaving an unconscious boy clutching the other half of his pendant that his sister left behind.

“What the heck happened here?” questioned Siren. Wing Knight sighed defeatedly and said, “You don't want to know.”
